THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN NATURAL STONE COASTERS

Natural Stone Coasters are a beautiful addition to any Farmhouse Rustic Home.

Whether you keep them at home or they’ve been selected as your cabin coasters, the natural absorption of these stone drink coasters comes in handy. Natural stone will absorb condensation from your drinking glass, protecting your furniture from those unsightly water rings. And the cork dots on the bottom of each coaster, add even more protection for your furniture.

* Important Tip :  When the days heat up and its very humid, leaving your glass on the coasters for an extended period of time, can potentially cause some leakage.  We recommend not leaving your cold drink on the coasters for more than an hour on hot days.   Remember, cold drink + hot and humid weather = condensation.  And one of the key perks of Natural Stone is that it will absorb.   If the cold drink is left on for an extended period of time, once the stone is fully absorbed, the liquid needs to be released.

So, what do you do, if after time, your coasters get stained from water rings or even coffee that has dripped? How do you clean stone coasters?

THE SIMPLE WAY TO CLEAN NATURAL STONE COASTERS

When your stain has not yet set into the coaster, or the mark is only from water, this simple method could work for you. All you need is a soft cloth, some warm water, and a little bit of elbow grease!

  • Find a paper towel or a soft cloth that will not be abrasive on your coasters. Simply wet the towel with warm water.
  • Wipe the coaster down at the sight of the stain. Use small, gentle, or even circular, motions on the stain until the pigment or outline begins to lift.
  • Once it appears that the stain has lifted, set the coasters aside and allow them to air dry.

WILL THE INK COME OFF?

No, we use permanent ink that is absorbed into the stone and set.

WHAT ABOUT COFFEE, TEA OR WINE STAINS?

When you’re relaxing and enjoying your wine or coffee, you’re not thinking about their potent staining effects. So, if you happen to spill instead of sip, you’ll need to know how to save your stone coasters.

  • Acting fast will certainly help in these situations. If the stain is fresh, it will usually come off with the simple cleaning method of warm water and a soft cloth mentioned above.
  • If your stains are older, or more stubborn, you can try adding a drop of mild dish detergent on a soft cloth or paper towel. With the same gentle motions of the simple cleaning method, begin to wipe the stain away.
  • Then, simply wipe away any excess residue left behind and allow your coasters to air dry.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF THE STAINS REMAIN?

If you’ve gone through the above steps and come back to your air dried coasters only to see faint staining still there, don’t lose hope! Your stained coasters may simply need a little more work in the form of an extra cleaning round.

  • If you are still seeing marks from your stain after using the simple cleaning method, you can either repeat the simple process to see if one more round removes the stubborn stain or you can proceed to the gentle detergent method that follows. After round two, let your coasters air dry again.
  • If you began with the detergent method, try going through the steps once more to see if the remainder of the stain finally lifts.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

Whether you’ve ended up with stains that are simple or a bit more stubborn, there are still some precautions to take to ensure that your coasters come out looking better.  The quality of your natural stone coasters matters and it plays a role in their ability to be cleaned.

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Choose your stone coasters carefully. Our Natural Stone Coaster designs are made using only permanent ink and are safe to be cleaned with water and mild detergent. So, your rustic designs will stay put while you work on erasing those stains!
  • Do not attempt to clean your natural stone coasters in the dishwasher. Though it may sound easier, the detergent will be too abrasive for the design and the heat will damage the coaster itself.
